Grow Home

Every plant you see here was started from seed and then grown on my balcony right in the center of Berlin, Germany.

A new summer, same balcony.

Here is some of what has been growing this year so far: sunroot, cos lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, kohlrabies and strawberries. Further I am growing several kinds of herbs, sweet peppers, more kinds of lettuce, radish, cucumbers, carrots, green beans, potatoes and more.

Looking forward to a joyful summer.

Yes, you can grow melons on a balcony. Even in Germany.

Radish is a must have on my balcony. There’s nearly nothing that grows so fast and easy. You nearly always find some to pick when looking outside.

Last year was the first time I grew carrots. And it was one of the best ideas I had regarding the balcony. Yes, they are cheap at the supermarket. But they just grow by themselves and taste so fantastic when they are fresh that you just cannot compare it. And yes: it’s also just plain fun.

Last summer I harvested about 10 pounds of delicious cucumbers. it’s always great to grow them, although they need some more intensive care.

Last summer I harvested about one pound of sweet peas. Although I really love them, especially uncooked, I consider it to be not worth the effort and might not grow them again in 2014.

Fresh herbs are delicious. This year I grew Basil, Sage, Peppermint, Melissa, Parsley, Garlic Chives, Regular Chives, Marjoram, Oregano,  Common Thyme and Rosemary.

With three Zucchini Plants standing side by side I harvested more than 40 Zucchinis within only four month.
